Function of the Circulatory System

  • Carries nutrients, and oxygen throughout the body
  • Picks up waste products and carries them to other systems for removal
  • Regulates body temperature
  • Carries white blood cells which aid in keeping us healthy

Parts of the Circulatory System

Heart: involuntary muscle that pumps blood through our bodies

Blood Vessels:

  • Arteries – carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
  • Veins – carry blood back to the heart
  • Capillaries – connect arteries to veins, the extremely thin walls allow for gas and nutrient exchange between blood and body cells.

Blood:

  • Plasma
  • Platelets
  • Red Blood Cells
  • White Blood Cells
